I saw two cool shirts in the MOA Arena last Wednesday. PHOTOS:

Last Wednesday at the PBA games in the MOA Arena, I spotted two fans rocking cool shirts. One shirt was a badass Doug Kramer homage shirt. It's even in the perfect Petron shade of blue and it features Doug's mohawk as well. Well Done.

Then, I met this guy in a crafty Alaska shirt. It doesn't even say Alaska but it has other PBA teams crossed out. Witty. High-five Red Army.

Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich getting to ready to KO opponents next season. PHOTO:

While Kobe Bryant's training himself back into shape like the most admirable madman there is, or diving into a pool, feet first, from over 40 feet (admirable madman talaga), Tim Duncan is busting himself into shape through boxing. So much for taking it easy next season since he's getting old. Duncan went through a boxing workout recently with former WBC World Super Featherweight Champion and IBA World Lightweight Champion Jesse James Leija. According to Leija's official website, he has fought champions like Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley and Arturo Gatti.

Watch out. Duncan's not the only big name in San Antonio who's jabbing and uppercutting his way into optimum condition. Remember, the NBA is a big boy game. These Spurs are serious! Some are saying the Spurs will finally be too old to compete for the championship next season. Some are saying we've heard that line too many times. I have a feeling the Spurs will be ready to trade punches with anyone next season. Why? Check out Leija's other pupil --- it's Pop!

ESPN Sunday Night Baseball tribute - Vin Scully's incredible career captured in a minute. VIDEO:

It's easy to admire what Vin Scully has accomplished...or is still accomplishing. 64 seasons and counting as the Voice of the Dodgers. The Los Angeles Dodgers recently announced that Scully is coming back for a 65th season. Sixty five seasons! That's over half a century! You can only last that long if you're one of the very best storytellers who ever lived.

And Scully is the very best.

However, Scully believes in the power of silence. Quite ironic for the man considered to be the greatest sportscaster of all time. In this article he says, "I would much rather hear the crowd than my own voice." Amen. Scully stands for excellence, longevity and humility. He has seen it all. He is in every Hall of Fame there is. He is a living legend. But my favorite Vin Scully quote, I believe, captures his true greatness: "My career is one of about talking the accomplishments of others. I haven't accomplished anything." One bet, one jinx and how my Tatay turned me into a basketball fan forever. By Camille Naredo

When I was 10 years old, the Sta. Lucia Realtors played the San Miguel Beermen in the 2001 Governors' Cup Finals. Nanay was a San Miguel fan, so I cheered for San Miguel. Tatay, ever the contrarian, said he was going to cheer for Sta. Lucia.

Honestly, I only remember Game 7. I don't remember the rest of the series, but I remember Game 7 - specifically, I remember a bet I made with Tatay sometime in the middle of Game 7.

I told him - and in retrospect this was a truly stupid idea - I told him that if Sta. Lucia wins, I was going to wash the dishes for a week. For 10-year-old me, washing the dishes for a week was torture.

Of course the game goes down the wire, because the universe was preparing me for a lifetime of difficult sports moments. The game was tied at 72 with just seconds to go. Tatay had been trash-talking all game, but even he was silent.

Twelve years later, I still cannot forget what happened. Chris Tan drilled a three-pointer with just three seconds left, and it hit absolutely nothing but net. It was ridiculous. Bedlam - both on the court and in our house, because my Tatay started jumping and hooting.

I remember sitting, staring at the TV. Was it Olsen Racela who missed a potential game-tying three? I don't remember. What I remember is Tatay pointing at me, telling me to go wash the dishes.

I was 10-years-old. I stood up and washed the dishes. I cried the whole time. Was I crying because my team - and yes, at that point San Miguel had become my team - lost, or because I had to wash the dishes due to that stupid bet?

Twelve years later, I still don't know the answer.

And that is how I became a basketball fan. Surprisingly, the traumatic experience did not turn me away from basketball. But! I did learn something from the experience.

I never, ever made a bet with Tatay again. CN

Alex Mallari checks out Zach Graham's kicks...the hard way. PHOTO by Nuki Sabio:

I felt bad for San Mig Coffee's Alex Mallari after I saw this photo by resident PBA photographer Nuki Sabio. There has to be an easier way to check out someone else's sneaker game. Ouch. MH

FOX Sports 1 Exclusive 1-on-1 Interview with LeBron James. VIDEO:

Watch FOX Sports 1's one-on-one interview with LeBron James where LeBron admits that he matured into what he is now. Also, in the latter part of the interview, you'll see LeBron in complete football gear (with helmet and pads!) and it's awesome. He was also asked for his top three players all-time. That should be interesting too. MH

New Nike "Just Do It - Possibilities" Commercial w/ LeBron James, Serena Williams, Gerard Pique and more. VIDEO:

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the iconic "Just Do It" slogan, Nike launched its "Possibilities" commercial featuring NBA champion LeBron James, tennis superstar Serena Williams, FC Barcelona's Gerard Pique, boxer Andre Ward, actor Chris Pine and narration by Bradley Cooper. I used to think Liev Shreiber (actor and narrator of HBO 24/7) was unparalleled as a new age narrator of sports documentaries. But after Cooper's performance in this commercial, now I'm not so sure. By the way, find out how "Just Do It" was born by reading this article from USA Today. My favorite line from Cooper's narration: "Is that Pique?...Yeah that is Pique." Also, LeBron appears in this commercial without his headband. I repeat: without...his...headband. I wonder if that means something. Hmmm the possibilities. MH

Gary Payton picks Wilt, Magic and Russell as top 3 all time. No MJ? VIDEO:

When asked to name his top three players all-time on the brand new sports highlights/discussion show Fox Sports Live, co-host Gary Payton mentioned Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson and Bill Russell. Not surprisingly, Gary's co-host Andy Roddick immediately protested, "But Michael Jordan is the best of all time." Gary responded, "But I like old-school dudes." Hmmm. It's his list I suppose. Like it's a personal thing. We're all entitled to create our own lists. The Glove is entitled to create his own. With or without MJ. MH

Kevin Durant got a nickname and didn't like it. Footlocker x Nike commercial. VIDEO:

To launch the new KD VI "NY66" colorway, Nike and Foot Locker put together this homage to the Rucker Park tradition of christening playground cool cats with cool playground nicknames. The commercial is right on point since the NY66 immortalizes Durant's legendary 66-point performance at Rucker. The problem: hoop junkies know that every cool cat who lights up Rucker gets a cool nickname...everyone except...Kevin. MH

4:00am Summer Nights. New Nike Commercial featuring Kobe Bryant in China. VIDEO:

One thing this new Nike TV commercial (which airs only in China) does is reinforce the legend that Kobe Bryant trains like nobody else. It starts with Kobe saying, "I think being up at 4:00am adds to the mental toughness." If Kobe ever decides to become a full-time trainer years from now, best of luck to whoever will decide to train under him. Seryoso, good luck. Even in this "Mamba Mentality" commercial, even on young Chinese players, Mamba is relentless. MH

Blake Griffin and Chris Paul in the Foot Locker "Endorser" commercial. VIDEO:

Foot Locker ads are written like Saturday Night Live skits. It's awesome. They highlighted the NBA players' entourage with the "Maurice" commercials. Loved those. Now they're highlighting the endorsement powers of superstars like Blake Griffin. Naturally, in the commercial, Blake gets an assist from CP3. Perfect. MH

Charles Barkley explains why he isn't on Twitter. It makes perfect sense. VIDEO:

Found this gem of a link buried in my Twitter "Favorites" folder. Charles Barkley explains why he isn't on Twitter. And as always, even if you don't agree with him one hundred percent, Chuck makes sense. In a way, it makes you respect Barkley even more. He values his opinions and doesn't want it affected or infected in any way by the online mob. In Barkley's opinion, he doesn't need social media, social media needs him. Well played sir. MH

NBC Sports Premier League Primer featuring SNL's Jason Sudeikis. Laftrip! VIDEO:

You don't have to be a hardcore football fan to find NBC Sports' promo for their coverage of the Premier League hilarious. Which is the whole point of the endeavor -- to spread the gospel of football to as many American viewers as possible in the funniest way possible. It's irreverent if you're a football purist. But the objective is to get even non-football fans in the United States interested. They got the right man for the job too - SNL's Jason Sudeikis. With sports-pop-culture references to the Dallas Cowboys and Game of Thrones, what's not to like? The tagline says it all - "It's Football. Just Not as we know it." MH

Jordan Super.Fly 2 Commercial features Blake Griffin + Dr. Drain. VIDEO:

Sobra akong naka-relate to the recently released commercial for the new Jordan Super.Fly 2. Obviously, I can't relate to the slam dunking ways of Blake Griffin. But I can easily relate to Dr. Drain. Feelin ko if I have the opportunity to ball with Blake, I'll just end up tossing lob passes for Blake like Dr. Drain. Remember, they're not air-balls. They're assists bro. Apir! Dr. Drain for the win!

Maybe Michael Jordan runs the Bobcats/Hornets the way he chooses his clothes?

Saw this photo on GQ. It's part of their worst-dressed list. Boss Chief Mike, I will love your shoes until the end of time but sometimes (and this could be blasphemous) I just wonder: maybe his Airness runs the Bobcats/Hornets the way he chooses his clothes. MH

For Gilas, diskarte is a superpower. By James Velasquez.

I grew up loving our country’s history: I loved recounting the stories of our heroes, how each one was unique to the other. I loved how Dr. Jose Rizal used his wisdom and eloquence to ignite a revolution. I was a huge fan of Andres Bonifacio and his tenacity. Heck, Lapu-lapu can still make a case as one of the baddest men in Philippine history, dismantling an armada that was supposed to outgun, outarm, and outman us. Throw in a young Manny Pacquiao and Tito, Vic, and Joey (yes, they count as my childhood heroes) and you have the supergroup of all Pinoy Supergroups.

Young James had a fantasy: what if they all lived in the same era and formed like a Pinoy Freedom Force or something? Bonifacio was no Superman, and Rizal was a few million bucks short and a Batmobile away from being The Dark Knight, but that bunch would have kicked ass. We Filipinos always find a way to overcome challenges. Diskarte lang. Imagine the damage that supergroup of heroes coulda’ done.

I bring this up hopefully to inspire Gilas Pilipinas as they prepare for basketball warfare. This team is their Supergroup. All those times Gabe Norwood wished he’d have a wingman ala Japeth Aguilar to protect the skies, or when Gary David had a Marcus Douthit to draw the double team so he can be wide open for his three-point grenades.

We Filipinos have always been viewed as underdogs. The world sometimes likes to bring up our flaws, and tell us repeatedly why we can’t. Yeah we don’t have 6-8 guards. Yeah we don’t have a production line of 7-footers. But always, just like our heroes have proven time and again, this thing called Diskarte and this immeasurable power called Puso has allowed us to slay giants. And this bunch of hardcourt heroes are putting together their own unique special powers for a single purpose. Beat the odds. Show the region we can ball.

You need a coach that’s almost married to the game, who can get you fired up. Someone who isn’t afraid to get in your grill to get your head in the game, but will also let you know if you’re doing a good job to keep your fire burning. That is Chot Reyes’ purpose.

You need speed. Someone who moves like greased lightning. Someone who only knows how to play fast, then play even FASTER. Quick hands and feet to blitz past defenders like a blur of red, yellow, and blue. That is Jayson Castro’s purpose.

You need smarts. Someone who’ll make the right play at the right time, who’ll know when to play fast, take it slow, set the table, then get his when needed. Someone like LA Tenorio.

You need power. Some good ol’ fashioned, no-nonsense muscle, for those big rebounds and blocked shots. Someone strong, like Marcus Douthit and Junemar Fajardo.

It helps to have hops. When you have the ability to kiss the sky, you have the ability to electrify. Attack the rim, protect the paint, Japeth Aguilar.

You need shooters. Cold-blooded like Larry Fonacier. Smooth like Jeff Chan. Mercurial like Gary David.

You need to be versatile. Bring the ball up, set the table, defend guards and wingmen, and throw down slam dunks like Gabe Norwood. Or be an offensive nightmare for the other team, like how Ranidel De Ocampo strokes shots from long range and then bang in the paint for buckets.

You need heart. Someone who plays with raw passion as he battles in the trenches. You will need boundless energy and fire to push beyond your limits when all seems lost. Marc Pingris fits the bill.

You need someone to pull everyone together, on the court and off. Someone who will be at the frontlines to lead, to be the voice in every huddle, the shining example of hard work and a winning attitude. You need a winner like Jimmy Alapag.

And this group will be needing US. Their 6th Man. Buong Pilipinas ang resbak nila. Sila ang dumadayo sa court natin. Ipakita natin ang alab ng Puso ng bawat Pilipino.

Aming ligaya na pag may mang-aapi...

Ang mamatay ng dahil sa’yo! - JV
