Noynoy Falcasantos

Former SLR/Ginebra wingman Noynoy Falcasantos was ahead of his time. If he played in today's PBA, someone (not me) would've surely christened him "Mr. President" in a heartbeat. MH

Best-Sounding Name in PBA History?

Hoop heads @yochicoman and @yaelyraz are on to something here. One day on twitter, they decided to recall the best-sounding names in PBA history. Not just monikers, mind you. Names. As in First Name + Last Name. So let's keep it going: What are the best-sounding names in PBA History?

Roone Arledge - The Michael Jordan of TV Sports Production

"Heretofore, television has done a remarkable job of bringing the game to the viewer - now we are going to take the viewer to the game!" - Roone Arledge (And to prove how ahead he was of his time, he wrote this in the 1960's)

Roone Arledge is widely-regarded as the greatest television sports producer ever. He created Monday Night Football, produced the legendary ABC Wide World of Sports, pioneered the Sports Instant Replay and the Sports Slow-Motion Replay among many innovations.

But Arledge's strongest legacy in sports production - the Humanity of Sports Television: "What we set out to do was to get the audience involved emotionally. If they didn't give a damn about the game, they might still enjoy the program."

If you are in any way involved in television sports production, be it for the coverage of basketball, boxing, football or even patintero, you will thank yourself for reading ROONE: A MEMOIR. Or at the least, just Google this man up: ROONE ARLEDGE. MH

How to deal with uncertainty - Run a 10K!

The thrills of a 10K are a) going back and forth to the portalet 50 times before the race starts b) running on an empty Skyway c) spotting the 6K marker and you're still functioning properly and c) surviving the smell of Mercato Centrale's Donut Burger as you cross the finish line. MH

Polo for Renegades

I watched Bike Polo last Sunday at the UP AS Parking Lot. Less Ralph Lauren pageantry. More rough-around-the-edges bike-on-bike, wheel-on-wheel laboratory. Granite. Tats. Fixed Gearheads. DIY mallets. Supposedly first Bike Polo group of its kind in the country. It's the dawn of a new game...

Blake Griffin is a Beast...Burp.

The word's out: Blake Griffin will recruit two Clippers to help him in the Slam Dunk Contest. Griffin will eat the first Clipper. Then he'll dunk over the second Clipper. Sorry Rasual Butler. Burp. Beasssttt!

Lao Ming! Lao Ming!

For the past two games, Talk 'N Text marketing guys (I can only assume) placed life-sized cardboard figures of their players in Araneta. The likeness of key guys such as Jimmy Alapag and Ryan Reyes were placed at the Green and Red Gates for fans to see. While the figures of not-so-key guys were placed outside the team dugout for the Beermen to gawk at. Coincidentally, TNT lost the last two games. Parang malas noh? If I bring home Gilbert Lao's life-size figure, will I be doing TNT a favor? MH

Danny Ildefonso's poise, hairstyle are constants.

Want to know why Danny Ildefonso's end-game poise hasn't changed? Good. Because Talk 'N Text wants to know that too. Want to know why Danny Ildefonso's hairstyle has hardly changed in the last ten years? Danny says his wife likes it that way. Case closed. MH
