Big thanks to Mr. Carlo Singson, NBA Country Manager for the Philippines, for inviting Team Edward to the NBA 3X Celebrity Challenge at the Mall of Asia Music Hall last July 28. We promise to do better next year. Our training camp for the 2014 NBA 3X Celebrity Challenge opens tomorrow.
We're actually thankful we didn't enter the Open Division. Intense!

Phil Mickelson and other pro golfers tee off Happy Gilmore-style! VIDEO:
First off, Happy Gilmore is not just one of the best Adam Sandler movies of all time, it's not just one of the best sports movies of all time, Happy Gilmore is one of the best movies of all time. Period. So when I found a video of pro golfers, led by Phil Mickelson no less, teeing off like they're Happy Gilmore, it needs to be shared.
And since we're discussing Happy Gilmore, might as well share a favorite scene among many favorite scenes....Happy Gilmore vs Bob Barker:

New Tiger Woods Nike commercial combines golf with other sports. VIDEO:
Check out the Nike TW '14 commercial featuring Tiger Woods. Since in the eyes of Nike, Tiger is not just a golfer but a total athlete, they combined golf with track and field, baseball, boxing, basketball and some US NCAA-style court storming towards the end. Cool stuff.

Marc Pingris on guarding LeBron James 1-on-1. INTERVIEW & PHOTO:
MH: Ano pakiramdam na binantayan mo si LeBron James one-on-one?
Marc Pingris: Ang sarap ng feeling. Blessed ako na nabantayan ko siya.
Talagang totoong malakas yung katawan. Shooter na nga. Malakas yung katawan.
Kinain ako. Pinagtitirahan ako ng three points. Hindi ko alam kung papano siya babantayan.
MH: Bakit mahirap bantayan si LeBron James? (Although to be very fair to Marc, LeBron is difficult to guard...for everyone.)
MP: May tira sa
labas. Marunong mag-drive. Malakas. Pero at least yung experience against
LeBron, pwede ko ma-apply sa mga dedepensahan ko in the future. Kasi yun talaga trabaho ko sa Gilas and sa PBA. At least,
alam ko na pwede ko pa ma-improve sarili ko.
MH: Naisip mo ba before the event, before the game na baka
babantayan mo si LeBron James?
MP: Hindi eh. Ni-request lang talaga ni Coach Chot. Pero masaya. Hindi no makakalimutan sa buong buhay ko ‘to. MH

Superman and Batman are playing basketball in this awesome comic book cover. PHOTO:
All you need to know about this photo: Superman and Batman are playing basketball and Robin is amped to be watching it up close. I'm thinking though. Medyo underdog ata si Batman in this match-up. Imagine Superman's crazy hangtime. I suspect thought that Batman may have better post-up moves. Uhm Magoo, ano odds mo dito? +10 si Batman? Thanks to Dave Itzkoff of the New York Times for sharing this on the internet and thanks to BDL's Eric Freeman for finding it on Twitter!
Ginebra's Chris Ellis should watch this dunk contest from the ESPYS. VIDEO:
Check out highlights from a dunk contest outside the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles during ESPN's ESPY Awards Night. Initially, I thought of asking Japeth Aguilar to watch this. But I'm sure Japeth would much rather focus on the FIBA-Asia Championships. Post-FIBA-Asia project mo na lang 'to Japeth.
I think Ginebra's Chris Ellis and the other dunkers in the PBA, however, should watch this. Chris, I know your coaches may not approve but there are dunks here which you can totally do during games! Hehe sorry coaches. And Chris, your appropriate response should be...(Barney Stinson Voice)...Challenge Accepted. Haha.

Brooklyn Nets owner says Jason Kidd is Maverick from Top Gun. VIDEO:
In a story by Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov compared Nets Head Coach Jason Kidd to Maverick of Top Gun. Ahhh ok. Wait, what?! In Bondy's article, Prokhorov said, "Tom Cruise plays Maverick, and he was a top pilot, he was a real leader. At the end of the day he made decision to be an instructor because it was the highest value just to be a leader. So Jason Kidd is our Top Gun." If Prokhorov says it, it must be true. Top Gun it is! Jon Hamm slams Dwight Howard and jokes about LeBron's hairline during ESPN Awards Night monologue. VIDEO:
During the ESPN's annual ESPY Awards Night in Los Angeles, actor Jon Hamm slammed Dwight Howard and joked about LeBron's receding hairline. Medyo awkward lang when ESPN would cut to close-up of athletes in the audience and they would hardly react to some of the jokes. I guess athletes don't want to be seen in public laughing at fellow athletes. Anyway, going back to the monologue, I'm sure Kobe-loyalist Magoo Marjon will absolutely love the bit on Dwight:

Frank Golla's message for all the critics - Bo Knows. PHOTO:
After Ateneo lost to UE yesterday, I knew the critics would go hard on the Blue Eagles. Ateneo is starting the season with 1 win and 4 losses. It's the perfect invitation for doubters both from inside and outside the Ateneo area of responsibility. That's the problem when you always win. Losing, regardless of perspective, becomes unacceptable. It's like the curse of dominance. Some fans are irrational to begin with. You show them a 5-peat, their irrationality gets multiplied by 5. Naturally, first year Head Coach Bo Perasol is taking a lot of heat. And it's not for wearing white driving shoes during games. So Ateneo center Frank Golla used his Instagram account to post a very clear and very simple message. He even tagged his teammates. The players trust in each other and in their coach because...#BoKnows. MH

Scenes from the line for LeBron James Witness History tickets in BGC. PHOTOS:
Scenes from LeBronville in BGC last July 16:
Some of the first people in line. They started lining up 5:00pm last Monday.
Was surprised to see this guy in line. Yup. That's a Kobe Bryant Nike Logo tattoo.
He even brought his Team Kobe shirt. He knows this is the line for a LeBron James event right? Haha.
Now here's a guy who should really be here.
Some of the first people in line. They started lining up 5:00pm last Monday.
As well as this guy.
And these guys.
Naturally, a lot of them rocked LeBron tees.
I wasn't surprised to see this guy in a Lost Angels Lickers shirt. Magoo Marjon will hunt you down bro.
Friends who cheer for LeBron together, wait for free tickets together.
They started lining up outside Nike Park but they were eventually transferred to an open parking lot nearby.
No sleep and lots of hair for LeBron.
I love you Bron. Mwah.
Even Growling Tigers want to see LeBron James.
It's a family affair for the Gabriel Family including 9-year-old Kristen who says this is an experience.

Proof that Rico Blanco is a hard core basketball fan. VIDEO:
If you follow Rico Blanco on Twitter (@ricoblanco), you'll know that he watches basketball whenever he can. When he's not writing imaginative songs, he's probably tweeting about LeBron James or posting images of his favorite basketball sneakers on Instagram.
I remember spotting Rico during an Ateneo-La Salle game in Araneta. This was anywhere between 1995 to 1997. Can't remember the exact year. But I do remember that he was on his up to Upper Box B to watch the game. That's just hard core hoops love right there.
So when Rico deftly inserted a Dominique Wilkins poster in his new song Lipat Bahay, I wasn't shocked. A Joy Division record. The E-Heads CD. Galing! Maybe I expected those. But you have to be a bit hard core to show Dominique Wilkins, legendary scorer and high-flyer for the Atlanta Hawks, a lot of love in a song.
Just in case you're too young remember Dominique Wilkins, here's the unforgettable 1988 Slam Dunk Contest duel between Wilkins and Michael Jordan:

NU's Jeoffrey Javillonar pushes UST's Jeric Teng. Teng hurts shoulder. VIDEO:
With 1:22 left in the first half, NU's Jeoffrey Javillonar levels UST's Jeric Teng with what appears to be a blindside push. Was it accidental or intentional? Teng injures his right shoulder and will likely miss UST's next game. Understandably, Jeric, who is playing in his final year in the UAAP, as well as his brother Jeron posted emotional tweets right after the game:

Chicago Bulls fans will like Derrick Rose "Vengeance" Video.
The best part of the NBA offseason: everyone gets a fresh start. Everyone. Even someone who was expected to return last season but for some reason did not. Someone like Derrick Rose. That's all in the past. The NBA offseason is a time to dream about the immediate future. It's about imagining D-Rose in the 2013-2014 season. And if we're going to believe what one Chicago Bulls fan suggests, it's anticipation for D-Rose and the vengeance he seeks.
